Loretta Rau, 89, formerly of Linton, ND, died April 21, 2023 in the Strasburg Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am, Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at First Baptist Church, Linton with Pastor Richard Cook officiating. Visitation will held for 1 hour before the services at the church. Burial will be in the Linton Cemetery.

Loretta was born on October 10, 1933 on a farm near Linton, ND, the daughter of Henry and Amelia (Schmierer) Breckel. She was one of nine children. She attended country school in the Linton area. She married Howard Rau on July 3, 1966 at the First Baptist Church, Linton. They resided in Linton. Loretta was employed at Wangler & Nagel Jewelry since 1960. She worked at the jewelry store for 48 years.

Loretta was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Linton, was a member of Women's Missionary Union, and taught Sunday school for 20 years and she also sang in the choir.

She enjoyed spending time on the farm, gardening and going to basketball games.

Loretta is survived by several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard in 1996; her daughter, Brenda in 1996; four brothers: Otto, Gottlieb, Edward and Calvin; and four sisters: Christine Breckel, Alvina Loebs, Lorraine Tschritter and Arlene Schaeffer.
