Loretta Vetsch, 86, formerly of Linton, ND, passed away on May 30, 2017, surrounded by family in the home of her eldest daughter, Diane, Westminster, CO.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 9, 2017 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton, with Fr. Jason Signalness officiating. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Myers Funeral Home in Linton, with a rosary vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at 11:00 am on Friday at the church.

Loretta was born to Peter and Asteria (Nagel) Masset on July 5, 1930 and grew up in Linton with her 10 brothers and sisters. She married Leonard Vetsch on October 28, 1948. Shortly after marriage, they moved to Seattle, WA, where both worked at a candy factory. After returning to Linton to start a family, Loretta and Leonard moved to New Rockford, ND in 1968, where they raised their six children. Loretta spent her time caring for their home and providing for her family, and she enjoyed working in their large garden. Leonard passed away in 1995, and Loretta remained in New Rockford until 2009, when she went to live with her daughter Diane and son-in-law Jim Johnson in Westminster, CO. She moved to Carson City, NV to live under the care of her son Leonard Vetsch and her son Bob Vetsch with partner Cheryl Rivers in their homes. Loretta returned to Colorado in 2013, where she was cared for by Diane and Jim Johnson until her death. Loretta was an exceptional cook, especially of traditional German cuisine, and also enjoyed playing cards and bingo. She took most joy in hosting family and friends in her home. Loretta had a special knack for making everyone feel welcome (and well-fed), and her hospitality was second to none.


Loretta is survived by her six children and their spouses, Diane (Jim) Johnson, Westminster, CO, Leonard Vetsch, Carson City, NV, Bob (Cheryl Rivers) Vetsch, Carson City, NV, Donna (Jim) Prather, Montgomery, IL, Doreen (Cameron) Seibold, Arvada, CO, Dennis Vetsch, Fargo: nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Tony and Karyl Masset, Milwaukee, WI, Myron Masset, Ellendale, ND, and Delores Masset, Bismarck, ND; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Tillie Holzer, Linton, ND, Isabel Miller, Mobridge, SD, Irene Buechler, Strasburg, ND, Luella and Mark Wangler, Napoleon, ND, and Anna Mary and Ray Dockter, Linton, ND; three sisters-in-law, Betty (Caroll) Fink, Malone, WI, Mary Vetsch, Linton, ND, and Virginia Vetsch, Linton ND; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 47 years, and three siblings: Bernice Hahn, Leo Masset, and Pius Masset.
