Lucy was born on August 22, 1947 in Napoleon, ND. She was the daughter of George and Francis (Schwartzenberger) Gross. She grew up on a farm and attended school in Napoleon. She was the second youngest of eleven children.
On July 6, 1966 Lucy married the love of her life, Terry Scherr. Together they built their family farm West of Linton. They had six children together, Kelly, Troy, Shelly, Terry Jay, Kristy and Tiffany.
Lucy was a very hard worker throughout her life. She went from being a hair and nail model to marrying a farmer, working in the fields and milking cows! As the kids started getting older, she started working at Lindeman's Butcher Shop, The Rivery, and other local bars. After she retired, she loved helping at Scherr's Meats. In 2010 Lucy's husband, Terry, passed away and she decided to move into Linton, ND.
Lucy was very close to her family. She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She also loved going to the bar with her good friends, Arlene Wagner and Donna Tveito. Lucy always had a great garden. She loved canning, gambling, watching Two and a Half Men, and taking naps! When we told her we loved her, she'd always say "love you more"! She was always willing to give us her honest opinion. She loved to see us all come to her house, but she did not hesitate to tell us when it was time to go "and don't forget your kids!", she'd say.
Lucille is survived by her two sons, Troy and (Shari) Scherr, Linton, ND, and Terry Jay and (Nikki) Scherr, Mandan, ND; three daughters and one daughter-in-law, Valerie Scherr, Strasburg, ND, Shelly and (Greg) Volk, Linton, ND, Kristy and (Mike) Ryckman, Linton, ND, and Tiffany (Jeremy) Kuntz, Linton, ND; her grandchildren, Chris, Miranda, and Hannah Scherr, Justin and Stacia Wagner, Tate and Teegan Scherr, Mea and Taya Scherr, Makiah, Keeley, and Chance Ryckman, Kara, Aria, Brea, and Ezra Kuntz; one great grand-daughter, Chaylynn Scherr; her brother, Msgr. Val Gross; brothers-in-law, Don Hertz and Edwin Ternes; sisters, Mary Vetter, Veronica (Wilfred) Masset, and Donna Hoffman; sisters-in-law, Elaine, Christine and Mary Ann Gross.
