Lydia was born August 20, 1921 to John and Katherine (Dietz) Wagner. She was raised in Strasburg and worked at their family grocery store growing up. She graduated from St. Ben's school. After high school, she taught school until she married Anton Roth Sr. on February 11, 1941 at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. They farmed in Rosco SD for a short time then moved 17 miles west of Strasburg. In 1954, they moved 5 miles west of Strasburg where they farmed dairy and grain and raised their 12 children. In 1977 Lydia and Anton moved into Strasburg where they retired. Lydia and Anton were married 64 years when Anton passed away in 2005.

Family was most important for Lydia as she cared and prayed for her 12 children over the many years. She was an amazing cook and baker and could have a fabulous meal whipped up in no time. She loved to have her children and friends come to visit and someone to feed! She was an amazing hostess. Lydia is one of the most organized people we know. She loved to play bridge, crochet, sew, and make baby blankets for all the grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing with Anton and the family, play Pinochle with friends and family and playing cards with the grandchildren. Lydia was an active member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Saint Mary Society and the women's VFW Auxiliary.

Grateful to share her life with  her 12 children and their spouses, Gerald (Shirley) Roth of Shell Knob MO, Edward Roth of Alice, ND, Lavern (Robert) Bosch of Grand Prairie, TX,  Marian (Craig) Andresen of New Brighton MN,  Tony (Becky) Roth of Strasburg, ND,  Lydia (Jerome) Schumacher, Ipswich, SD, Kathy (Dale) Nieuwsma, Bismarck, ND,  Michael Roth (Suzan Balkovatz) of Moffit ND, Charlotte ( Gary) Van Beek of Maplewood, MN, Ken (Carol) Roth of Lakeville, MN,  JoAnn Burns of Eureka, SD; 45 grandchildren, 79 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-Grandchild; and two sisters-in-law, Rose Roth and Florence Roth;  and numerous nieces and nephews.
