Lydia was born April 4, 1913 13 miles east of Linton, ND, the daughter of Jacob and Barbara (Sayler) Forderer. Lydia was baptized on July 13, 1913 and confirmed in 1927. She attended country school through the eighth grade. Lydia continued to live and help on the family farm until her marriage. She married Jacob Schatz, Jr. in Linton on November 25, 1937. To this union two children were born, Virginia and Melvin. They made their first home southwest of Linton for seven years and in 1944 moved to a farmstead 1 1/2 miles west of Temvik. After retiring in 1976, they moved into Linton. Jacob died March 29, 1992. Lydia continued to live in Linton until November 2000 at which time she moved to the Patterson Place in Bismarck. She lived there for 6 1/2 years before entering the Baptist Home. Lydia enjoyed crocheting, quilting, baking, playing cards and puzzles. She also enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Lydia liked to sing and listen to German hymns. For years she participated in the German choir at her church in Linton. Lydia is survived by one daughter and son-in-law: Virginia and Edward Will of Bismarck, ND; one son and daughter-in-law: Melvin and Tess Schatz of Mobridge, SD; six grandchildren: Tamara (Randy) Josephson, Sharon (Marc) Jackson, Steven Will, Bryan (Nadine) Schats, Michael Schatz and Melissa Schatz; six great grandchildren: Mikayla and Ben Jackson, Mckenzie, Madison, Nathan and Aden Schatz; two sisters: Maggie Steinert of Bismarck, ND and Pauline Wagner of Linton, ND; one brother: Adolph Forderer of Wishek, ND and one sister-in-law: Frieda Forderer of Wishek, ND and numerous nieces and nephews. Lydia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jacob, three sisters, Katherine, Emma and Emily and three brothers, John, Edward and Frank.
