Margaret Schatz was born March 19, 1923 in Zeeland, ND. She died on May 27, 2014 at age 91 in Minneapolis, MN. Margaret was one of nine children of John and Margaret (Seiler) Schatz. She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Sister Mary Rose Schatz, Julia Mathern, Eugene Schatz, a niece Mary Jane (Meier) Bollinger and nephew, Rodney Meier.Margaret was raised on the farm with her six sisters and two brothers, taking part in the normal aspects of living on a farm. After chores were finished, Margaret could be found near the stove reading, beginning a life long love of literature. After graduating from Zeeland High School she attended college and earned her teaching license. She taught for several years, left North Dakota, and arrived in Minneapolis in 1959. She lived for a time with her sister Mary, her husband John Kramer, and their daughters. A close relationship was formed with her Minneapolis family. Margaret was affectionately known as Shaunty, and was an integral part of their lives. She shared every holiday and major occasion with them. Holidays will never be the same without her for her Minneapolis family. Her nieces will miss her most of all.Margaret's first job in Minneapolis was with a small accounting firm. She found her facility for bookkeeping decided to pursue and obtained a business degree at the University of Minnesota. After graduation she took a position with the US Department of Agriculture in Minneapolis where she retired after more than 20 years in 1989. She was very successful in her career as indicated by her receipt of an award as Metropolitan Twin Cities Federal Employee of the Year in 1982. Margaret loved to sew, and was a very talented seamstress and she enjoyed many hobbies, including decoupage, antiquing, traveling and spending time at her lake place near Brainerd. She owned a home in Minneapolis and later in Golden Valley. In her later years, she moved to St. Therese Apartments in New Hope where she lived for the last ten years. In the last few years as her health failed she still lived in independent living and enjoyed many of the activities at St. ThereseMargaret was generous, kind and thoughtful. She was a devout Catholic and was active in St. Margaret Mary Church in Robbinsdale. Her family remembers her as a loving supportive listener who never judged them. She is survived by siblings, Rose Mitzel of Edgeley, ND, Mary Kramer of Hopkins, MN, John (Josephine) Schatz of Bismarck, ND, Christine Meier of Fargo ND and Betty Brandner of Aberdeen, SD and 46 nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass and burial will be held at 11:00 AM, July 19 at St. Andrews Church, Zeeland, ND. May she rest in peace.
