Marilyn Joy Van Beek, 61, Napoleon, formerly of Westfield, ND, died Tuesday, September 27, 2011 in the Napoleon Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 30, 2011 at First Baptist Church, Linton, ND with Rev. John Swann officiating. Burial will be in Westfield Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Myers Funeral Home, Linton, ND. Visitation will continue one hour before services on Friday. Marilyn Joy Van Beek was born January 28, 1950, to Gerrit and Winnie (Wolf) Van Beek at the home of her oldest sister, Jean and Marvin Dykema in Strasburg, ND. She grew up on the family farm one mile west of Westfield, ND. Marilyn lived with her family on the farm until September, 1956, when her parents, two sisters and a brother moved to Bismarck, ND. She attended Bismarck Reformed church with her parents and also went to School of Hope for many years. When Marilyn was about 14 or 15 years old, she contacted an infection in her left eye and it was necessary for her eye to be removed in order to keep the infection from moving to the other eye. She has since lived with sight in one eye but that did not slow her up much. On May 23, 1972, she became a resident of Napoleon Care Center where she has resided the remainder of her life. Many wonderful people cared for her and helped her through difficult times. Losing loved ones was very hard for her. Her joy was in her family. She loved getting pictures of her sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and extended family. She had a second family with all the people at the Care Center and in the area. It seemed everyone knew her. A highlight in her life was going to Camp Grassick every year. She could hardly wait to go. There was swimming, crafts and friends there that she loved. She lived with Marilyn Graf for many years at the Care Center and they were very best friends. They did many things together and attended the Methodist church there. Since Marilyn had only one eye and Marilyn Graf was nearly blind, they helped each other out with everything they could. It was a very hard loss when Marilyn Graf passed away in December, 2007. Marilyn passed away September 27, 2011 at the Napoleon Care Center under the comfort care of the many special caretakers who were always so very good to her. She is survived by four sisters and three brothers-in-law: Jean and Marvin Dykema of Bismarck, ND and California, Doris and Dennis Dykema of Strasburg, ND, Wilma Tommie of Aurora, Co and Pearl and Ron Schulz of Bismarck, ND, two brothers and sisters-in-law: Delvin and Judy Van Beek of Linton, ND and Don and Doris Ann Van Beek of Bismarck, ND, one aunt and uncle, Merrill and Irene Wolf of Condon, OR as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Gerrit and Winnie , her niece, Arlis Dykema Perry and sisters in law, Marlene Van Beek and Jan Van Beek.
