In Loving Memory of Martha Weigel
Martha Weigel (90) formerly of Zeeland, ND, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2018, at the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck, ND. Visitation will be held August 16, 2018, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. On Friday, August 17, 2018, visitation will be available for one hour prior to the Mass of Christian Burial which will begin at 10:30 am at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, with burial to follow at St. John's Cemetery in Zeeland.
Martha was born on June 18, 1928, on a farm north of Zeeland, the daughter of Nickolas and Caroline (Glatt) Wolf. She grew up on the family farm and attended rural school. She married Peter Weigel on February 3, 1947. Martha helped with field work and farm chores, and she was an excellent cook and baker. She took great pride in preparing glorious meals, often eaten in shifts when the family gathered at the farm. Martha played lots of pinochle with her friends and family. She was also a member of the Christian Mothers.
Martha is survived by three sons and one daughter; James (Brenda) of Bismarck; Diane (Tim) Herbst, of Maple Grove, MN; Larry (Dee), of Gresham, OR; Randy (Jody) of Bismarck; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; Her brother James (Carol), of Washington; sisters Clara of Fargo, ND, Barbara (Dan) of Bismarck, and Annie (Ferrel) of Thief River Falls, MS, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Peter; son, Kevin; her parents; sisters, Frances Mitzel, Eva Rutschke; brothers, Matthew, Joseph, Sylvester, Anton and Frank; and by grandchildren Melissa Weigel and Michael Maddox.
Martha will be missed by everyone who knew her. We will miss that sparkle in her eye when she laughed, as she did often, and we will miss her warmth and kindness. Although they will never taste quite as wonderful without her loving touch, we hope everyone can gather family together and enjoy Martha's very special dumplings (dampfnudel):
Make sure you wash that all down with a glass of Mogan David wine, Martha's favorite.
