Mary Ann Gross, 87, Bismarck, formerly of Linton, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2023, in her home surrounded by her children.  Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday 11 a.m. February 21st 2023, at Ascension Catholic Church, 1825 S 3rd St. Bismarck, with Msgr. Jim Braaten officiating. Burial will be held at St. Michaels Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be held Monday, from 5pm to 7pm at the Ascension Catholic Church. Prayer service will be at the church at 7 pm.

Mary Ann was born May 15 ^th , 1935, in Venturia, ND to Markus and Katherine Wald. Mary Ann was the 5 ^th oldest of 9 siblings. She attended school until the 8 ^th grade and worked as a waitress at the Zeeland café.  She met her cowboy, Joe, at a barn dance in the fall of 1955. Joe and Mary Ann were married at the St. John's Catholic Church on September 11 ^th , 1956, in Zeeland, ND. Their first home was in Butte, MT.  After a few years, they returned to farmstead in Ashley, ND.  A few years later, they purchased a farmstead in Linton, ND where they raised their children. Thirty one years later, they turned the family homestead over to their son.  They lived on a farmstead in Driscoll, ND prior to purchasing their retirement home in Bismarck, ND.

Mary Ann was an outgoing person. She could carry on a conversation for hours with anyone she met.  This is a special talent that several of her children and grandchildren are blessed to have.    She poured love into her passions; family, sewing, gardening, cooking, and baking. She will be remembered for her kuchen, caramel rolls, and fried chicken.

Mary Ann had an exceptional work ethics that she imparted to her children and grandchildren. Mary Ann's faith guided her in life, she had a special place in her heart for the Blessed Mother and each of her children. We are truly blessed and forever grateful that God chose her to be our mother. Her passion, selflessness and love will never be forgotten.

Mary Ann is survived by her eight children:  Al (Katherine) Gross, Jane (Tom) Taber, Fargo, ND, George Gross, Bill (Patty) Gross, Sam (Missy) Gross, Linton, ND, Tammy (Fritz) Geffre, Hankinson, ND, Jackie (Jon) Grunefelder, Kintyre, ND and Mary Jo (Gordy) Jangula Bismarck, ND; 30 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.  Her siblings include: Donna (Joe) Feist, Ann "Margie" (Sam) Piatz, and Theresa Bates.  She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Rose Wald, Millie Wald, Valencia Wald, Christine Gross, Elaine Gross, and Donna Hoffman; Brothers-in-law: Don (Leona) Hertz, Edwin Ternes, Wilfred Masset, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband Joe, who died in 2017;  Parents, Markus and Katherine Wald, her father and mother-in-law:  George and Frances Gross; step mother, Julia Gross; her infant daughter, Mary; siblings: Phyllis Wald, Alvin Wald, Bill Wald, James Wald, Elsie Gross; in-laws Wayne Bates, Adam Gross, Msgr. Val Gross, George Gross, Clemens Gross, John and Mary Vetter, Veronica Masset, Lucy and Terry Scherr, Francis and Clarence Lindeman, Barbara Ternes, Helen Hertz; and many nieces and nephews.
