Mary Kathryn Hummel, 75, Hague, ND died on the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Thursday, August 15th, 2024 at St. Alexius Hospital, Bismarck, ND surrounded by her loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am, Monday, August 19, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hague, ND with Fr. Shannon Lucht officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 7:00pm with a rosary/vigil at 7pm on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at the church in Hague.
Mary was born to Rita (Schatz) and Baldwin Geffre in Bismarck, ND. As a young child she lived in many places in North Dakota. As a teenager they settled in Tacoma, WA where she became married and had her only son, Gerald. She loved to camp, dance, spend time at the lake and yearly trips to North Dakota.
She met and then married the love of her life Dennis on August, 29th 1981. They built their forever farmhouse in Hague, ND. Mary and Dennis loved farming, fishing, traveling, spending time with their grandkids, and caring for the animals on the farm. She especially loved painting ceramics, gardening, flowers, giving eggs away, swimming in their pool and her cats. During the holidays, she loved to cook, bake, and decorate. Mary was a woman of faith who loved being part of her church. She volunteered her time for many years in various ministries at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hague, ND. Mary had a generous and giving heart and was always putting others before herself. Her favorite time of the year was when family would come to visit and spend time on the farm, she loved to see everyone smiling and laughing together. Mary's kind and gentle demeanor drew everyone together, she was always the favorite aunt of all the nieces and nephews. She always looked forward to the time she spent with all of her siblings.
She is survived by her loving husband Dennis Hummel of Hague, ND; her only son, Gerald (Sheila) Hartman of Puyallup, WA; granddaughter, Savanna (Troy) Mattern of Strasburg, ND; and many siblings: Karen Natucci of Spanaway, WA, Mike (Lois) Geffre of Fargo, ND, Mark (Cindy) Geffre of Albany, OR, Connie Hummel of Bismarck, ND, Geralyn (Mark) Gallagher of Graham, WA, Dan (Elaine) Geffre of Perham, MN, Francis (Tammy) Geffre of Hankinson, ND, Randy (Anita) Geffre of Mound City, SD and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Baldwin and Rita Geffre; her brothers: Bob Geffre and Steve Geffre; her brothers-in-law: Dean Hummel and Lanny Natucci; her grandson, Garrett Hartman, and her mother and father in-law: Ben and Ella Hummel.
She will be missed by many.
The family wants to send heartfelt thanks to the staff at Linton Regional Medical Center, Emmons County EMT, Emmons County Sheriff's Department, and the staff at CHI St. Alexius Hospital. A special thank you to Jackie Grunefelder for her loving care and support for so many years.
