Obituary

Mavis Huizenga, 92, of Linton, ND formerly of Westfield, passed away July 9, 2022 at Linton Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 15, 2022 at 10:30 AM at United Methodist Church, Linton. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 14, 2022 from 6-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Sannes Feist Family Funeral Home, Linton. Burial will be held at the Westfield Cemetery. Mavis Flegel was born August 8, 1929 in Linton to John and Christina (Maier) Flegel. She was raised and educated in Linton, graduating from Linton High School. She married Isaac Huizenga on March 21, 1952 in Linton. Together they moved to a farm near Westfield, where they farmed and raised their children. Isaac passed away in 1992 but Mavis continued to live on the farm until moving to Linton in 2009. Throughout the years Mavis had various jobs which included working at Rosenbluth International, Stateline Resort, drove school bus for Bakker School and was a bailiff for the area courts. She was also involved in many church organizations, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a 4-H leader and a Mary Kay consultant and loved to being involved with the Grandparents program at the Strasburg school.

Mavis was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Red Hats Society. She enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, calling into the Gospel hour on the Mobridge AM radio Station every Sunday and most of all spending time with family.

Mavis is survived by her daughters, Deborah (Bruce) Schuetzle, Farmington, MN and Lori (Quentin) Larson, Pollock, SD; seven grandchildren, Larissa Schuetzle (special friend Danny Martenson), Christina (Nick) Norbie, Victoria (Jim) Guthrie, Amanda (Luke) Weinstein, Jessica (Rob) Hunt, Joshua (Katelynn) Larson and Samantha Larson; 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Bernice Flegel, Linton and brother-in-law, Jerry (Sylvia) Huizenga, Linton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Isaac; brothers, Arnold, Maynard and Vernon Flegel and sisters, Lorraine Jose and Darlene Shaw.
