Obituary

Melvin Frank Jahner, passed away in the Linton Hospital on September 5th, 2024 after a short but courageous battle with cancer at the age of 86.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30am, Monday, September 9, 2024 at Peace Lutheran Church, Linton, ND with Pastor Marlin Sapp officiating.  Burial will be in the Linton Cemetery at a later date.

Melvin was born to Joseph and Bertha (Humann) Jahner on August 1st, 1938 in Hazelton, ND. He was the third born into a family of ten boys. Melvin graduated from Hazelton High School in 1957. He spent many years working in the banking industry and insurance business while earning his CPA certification. In 1977 he moved his family to Linton, ND to join his brothers in JB Construction. In 1990 he started a garbage business and sold it in 1994 at the age of 56 and retired. Although he said he was "retired" he continued to work at the golf course and do taxes for family and friends as well as starting Dakota Sno Blades.

Melvin had an enormous amount of love for his family and friends. He made everyone around him feel valued and loved. He greeted each and every person with a very loud "Hi" as his hearing aids continued to buzz! His quick wit and sense of humor always made you feel safe and happy. He was always so proud of his children and grandchildren, they were the greatest joy of his life. Sports held a very special place in his heart. He was a huge Linton Lions fan, Twins baseball and San Francisco 49ers Football! Although we were all aware that the #1 love of his life was golf. After 65 plus years of golfing, Mel finally hit his first hole in one six weeks ago at the Linton Golf Course on hole #4. In his later years, his family would swear that he spent more time looking for lost golf balls than actually golfing.

Melvin was preceded in death by his first wife, Faye Erickson; son, Steven Jahner; his second wife, Karen Jahner; daughter, Jodi Jahner-Mosset; his parents: Bertha and Joseph Jahner and his brothers: Jim Jahner, Larry Jahner and LeRoy (Toots) Jahner.

Melvin is survived by his daughter, Pam Jahner and husband, Tom Finger; daughter, Jill Lipp and husband, Alan Lipp; his son, Shane Jahner and his wife, Crystal Jahner; Grandchildren: Ben Finger, Brayde Lipp, Jordin Lipp and Jodi Lipp; Brothers: Robert "Bob" Jahner, Kenny (Evelyn) Jahner, Wes (Judy) Jahner, Wayne Jahner, Don (Pat Huber) Jahner and Harvey (Nancy) Jahner and many nieces and nephews.

To know Melvin was to love him. His kind heart will be missed by many. Swing away in heaven Dad!
