Obituary



Mina Fetterley, 98, formerly of Pollock, SD, died March 5, 2010 at the Strasburg Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church, Pollock, SD with the Rev. Floyd Haan officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Valley Cemetery, Pollock. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 12, 2010 from 9:00am to 4:00pm at the Myers Funeral Home, Linton and from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at the church in Pollock with a prayer service at 7:30pm. Mina (Boschker) Fetterley was born February 7, 1912, to Peter & Annie (DeBoer) Boschker at their farm home five miles southwest of Westfield. There were four boys and six girls in their family. Mina completed her first eight grades at a country school, then went to high school in Pollock. She graduated in 1930. Mina attended Ellendale Normal School for one year. She taught at the Ryckman Country School for one year. On January 2, 1932, Mina married Sidney Fetterley at Mound City, SD. They lived on the McCrory Ranch near Winona, ND. Six children joined them: Margaret Ann, Norlin Gene, Ralph Carlyle, Phyllis Marie, Cydney Joan and Robin Kim. They lived on the John Backhaus farm for several years before moving to old town of Pollock in 1952. In 1977 they moved into Pollock to spend their retirement years. Gene and his family moved onto the farm. They worshipped at the Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church. Mina moved to the Strasburg Care Center in 2005. Mina was a member of the Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church, The Women in the Church, the Junior Thursday Study Club, the Pollock Senior Citizens and Birthday Club. Sid and Mina enjoyed travels to Hawaii, several bus tours of USA, and they visited their children and relatives in California. Mina enjoyed refinishing furniture, playing cardsWhist, Hand and Foot, and Gin Rummy, crocheting afghans and other items for her family, quilting, sewing, and gardening. She enjoyed spending time outdoorswalking to the nutrition site for dinner, pulling weeds in flowers, or raking the leaves from the lawn. Mina attended the local basketball games to watch her children, her grandchildren, and then her great-grandchildren play. She was always very proud of her family and often had a picture of family to share with her friends. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law: Gene and Annetta Fetterley of Pollock, SD; two daughters and sons-in-law: Peggy and Everett Van Beek of Pollock, SD and Cydney and Randall Cloud of Palm Springs, CA; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Fetterley of Westminister, CA; 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law: Ruth Boschker of Walla Walla, WA. Mina was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Sidney in 1980, two sons, Ralph and Robin, one daughter, Phyllis, son-in-law, Carl Gjefle; daughter-in-law, Lila Fetterley; grandson-in-law, Russell Haak; great-great granddaughter, Madison Dell Van Beek,, four brothers, Homer, Harry, Wilbur and Harry, and five sisters, Mary, Hilda, Anna, Ella and Henrietta.
