Nancy was born on February 17, 1917 on a farm near Westfield, ND, the daughter of John and Kate (Moerman) Dyk. She attended country school. Nancy married Henry J. Van Soest on January 14, 1948 at her parent's farm near Strasburg. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed southwest of Strasburg. They retired and moved into Strasburg in 1990. Henry died February 2, 2001. Nancy continued to live in Strasburg. She was a member of the Strasburg Reformed Church, RCWM, and the Strasburg Senior Citizens. She enjoyed crocheting doilies, baking, jigsaw puzzles, and visiting with family and friends. She also enjoyed teaching piano and playing at the Strasburg Care Center until she was hospitalized. Nancy will always be remembered as a kind, loving person and as a servant to all. She is survived by her daughter and sons-in-law: Alice and Michael Smette, Fargo, ND and Leo Feist, Bismarck, ND; six grandchildren: Lee, Lisa, Jerry and Jesse Feist, Nathan Huff and Carrie Smette. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2001; two daughters: Kerry Lee in infancy and Amaryllis Feist; three brothers: Peter, Willie and James Dyk and Three sisters: Bessie Dyk, Sarah Dyk and Elizabeth Dyk.
