Phyllis Schaeffer, 86. of Herreid, SD, died August 25, 2024. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 30, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Herreid Baptist Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Herreid.

Phyllis was born at home ½ mile west of Herreid, SD on July 22, 1938. She was the 3rd of the six children born to George and Anna (Kusler) Quenzer. She attended the Herreid School graduating in 1956.

She was united in marriage to Elton Schaeffer on April 12, 1957. They moved to Lansing, Michigan until May 1960, at which time they returned to Herreid where she lived until her death.  Upon returning to Herreid, she worked at the ASCS office of Herreid/Mound City for a number of years.  After that, she worked as the bookkeeper/office manager at Senftner Chevrolet until she retired. Upon retirement, she worked part-time at the Kountry Klassic, as well as baking for the Herreid Café and Super Stop.  She found much joy in baking for others, quilting, and embroidering dish towels.

She was a lifetime member of the Herreid Baptist Church and the Women's Missionary Fellowship. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Phyllis is survived by her four sons: Terrance (Cindy) of Herreid, Dale (Paula) of Bismarck, ND, Patrick (Tracy) of Bismarck, ND and Paul (Kim) of West Fargo, ND; Grandchildren: Zachary (Sarah) Schaeffer, Michael Schaeffer, Erica(Bill)Staples, Jostin Schaeffer, Christopher Schaeffer, Tyler Schaeffer, Kasy Schaeffer, Ryne(Bre)Schaeffer, Sarah(Luke)Weisenberger and Noah(Madison) Schaeffer; two sisters: JoAnn Osterberg, West Fargo, ND and Jaci Quenzer, Sioux Falls, SD; two sisters-in-law:  Bonnie Quenzer, Pueblo, CO and Janice Quenzer, Mitchell, SD; as well as many nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1977, her mother in 1990, her husband in 1994, and her three brothers (Wallace, Harlan, and Gerald).
