Obituary

James "Ray"  Coffman Jr, 54, of Linton, ND, died peacefully at his home on March 12, 2026 surrounded by his family.  Memorial services will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Sannes Feist Family Funeral Home, Linton with Pastor Marlin Sapp officiating.

Ray was born March 17, 1971 in California, the son of James Sr and Jackie (Baumeister) Coffman.  He was raised and educated in California.  As a child, Ray was a delight but quite a handful.  He was always curious, always active and not always a follower of rules and society graces.  Ray had experienced abusive foster homes and was happy to find loving neighborhood families that he could find a safe place to be.  He was curious and loved to tinker with things, sometimes fixing and sometimes breaking.

Ray knew everyone in the neighborhood.  He was such a bright and lovable boy who just wanted to belong.  He had many meaningful adventures with the Barcenas family including pizza nights, game nights and puzzles.  They went to Angels games and a trip to Hawaii.

Ray moved to North Dakota in the early 90's during the winter, which was a big change from California.  He worked different jobs throughout his life.  He enjoyed doing repo work while he lived in Fargo.  He also enjoyed working with his hands, doing construction, leather work, air brush painting, removing trees and gardening.

He was a member of a few different motorcycle clubs which he enjoyed.  He learned to drive 2 wheels before 4.  He loved to ride and be free.

Ray met Mindy Bergeson in 2013, together they enjoyed their animals and riding motorcycles.  Ray and Mindy got married in 2015. They enjoyed many trips on their bikes.  The last trip they took together was going to Oregon and Washington this past summer.

He enjoyed frisbee golf, playing drums and bass guitar.  He was a pool shark while enjoying his Jack and Coke.

Ray is survived by his wife, Mindy; daughter, Kyra and son, Josh; bonus parents: Steve and Linda Barcenas and their family; several aunts, uncles and cousins; mother-in-law, brother-in-law and family and 2 sisters-in-law and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Jim and Jackie Coffman; father-in-law, Mike Bergeson; grandparents: Arthur and Guinevere Baumeister and his uncle, Don Baumeister.
