Raymond Weisbeck, 88, of Herreid, SD, died October 30, 2023 in the Linton Regional Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Herreid, SD with Fr. Mark Axtmann officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. There will be a visitation/prayer service at 7pm on Friday, November 3, 2023 at the church.
Ray was born on July 16, 1935 in Hague, ND, the son of Herman and Marie (Schall) Weisbeck. He grew up on the family farm doing what he loved, taking care of the land and animals. While growing up, he attended local dances, this is where he met Rose M. Jacob. Ray and Rose were married on April 1, 1959 at St. Michael's Catholic Church near Linton.
Ray joined the South Dakota National Guard where he was part of the 214 Engineering Company. He went on to active duty with the US Army. He became certified as a marksman and a sharpshooter. Ray was honorably discharged from his services in 1964.
Ray owned a custom combining business and Badger Farm Equipment. He also helped build St. Michael's Church and was one of the first 5 who started Herreid Sporting Center.
Ray's love of music was contagious, he loved playing his guitar. He enjoyed playing at nursing homes and he played at the Herreid Centennial. As a child, Ray and his sister Virginia won a talent contest where they were on the radio. One couldn't help but sit and enjoy his music when he decided to play.
Ray owned a 650 Triumph motorcycle and a Honda Gold Wing. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, which he passed on to his boys. Ray also enjoyed playing pool with his friends, collecting antiques and fishing, both ice fishing and open water fishing.
Ray is survived by his wife, Rose of Herreid, SD; sons: Kevin (Amy) of Bismarck, Mike (Roxanne) of Herreid, SD, Dale (Melanie) of Herreid, SD and Todd (Tracy) of Bismarck; a daughter, Marlene (Danny) Moser of Pollock, SD; Grandchildren: Nick, Clayton, Tami, Ryan, Brad, Bryan, Ronna, Kyle, Sheldon, Austin, Chelsey and Megan; 21 great grandchildren and 1 due in November; sisters: Rita Fjeldheim and Virginia Silvernagel; brothers: Cyril (Vi), Walter (Paula), Eugene "Beno" (Jackie) and sisters-in-law: Cyrella Weisbeck and Ellen Weisbeck.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Herman and Marie; an infant son, Joseph; brothers: James (Eileen), Donald, Leonard "Slick" and brother-in-law: Orland Fjeldheim.
