Richard J. Nicklos, 84, Linton, ND, died Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Linton Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton with Father Dave Zimmer officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Catholic Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Myers Funeral Home where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Richard was born March 6, 1933, the son of Nick and Anna Nicklos (Sehr) in New England, ND. He was raised on his family farm southwest of New England. He attended St. Mary's Elementary and High School, graduating from New England St. Mary's in 1951. Richard served the church as an altar boy through his high school years. After high school, he farmed with his parents. Richard married Dorothy Ridl on June 23, 1954. They had two sons, Curtis was born March 13, 1955 and Clyde was born March 22, 1959, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Dickinson. In 1959, the family moved to Dickinson where Richard was employed by Queen City Packers. He started working for the State Highway Department in Dickinson, eventually transferring to Bismarck, ND. He worked for the Highway Department for ten years. While in Bismarck, their third child, Carla, was born on September 30, 1963 at St. Alexius Hospital. Richard was an avid trumpet player in various bands, including the Blue Notes for ten plus years.In 1967, the family moved to Linton and purchased a tavern called "The Hut", which he ran for over 27 years. He also farmed having horses and raising cattle, for over 20 years. Richard had a love for horses and took his family to numerous horse shows over the years. He announced at many horse shows at Beaver Valley Horse Club in Strasburg, ND. Richard was active in the community, announcing football games, parades, wrestling matches and baseball games and received life-long passes for his past service. He served nine years on the school board and was president of the school board for six years. He served as President of the Senior Citizens for six years and sang in the Senior Choir. He served 14 years on the water board and also served on the board of the Strasburg Care Center as well as Kidder-Emmons County Meals on Wheels Richard was a member of the Knights of Columbus and often led the Rosary at funerals. Richard received various awards for his service to the community.Richard is survived by his wife, Dorothy, Linton; two sons, Curtis (Debbie) Nicklos and Clyde (Karen) Nicklos, both of Bismarck, one daughter, Carla (Pat) Feist, also of Bismarck; five grandchildren, Ryan, Bismarck, Chad, Mandan, ND, Matthew, Dickinson, Drue and Danielle, Anchorage, AK; three great-grandchildren, Jace and Lukah, Mandan, and Alessa, Anchorage. He is also survived by two nieces, Grace Pavlicek, Buffalo, NY and Donna Rose Kovash, Dickinson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Anna Nicklos, two brothers, Mike and Harvey, one sister, Anna; one nephew, Bobby and two nieces, Darlene and Julie.
