Richard was a great man with horrid demons, and we all loved him. He taught us that you can grow older and be more responsible, but always stay young at heart and enjoy life. He loved playing video games with his grandchildren. He was a semi-driver his whole life, which came from learning from his daddy driving truck for the uranium mines in Colorado. He was a lover of all animals and loved passing the knowledge he had on to his children and grandchildren. Richard loved motorcycles and some of his proudest times were riding in the wind with his children, whether it was on horses or motorcycles.

Richard had a great love for his country. In 1963 he enlisted in the United States Army. After enlisting Richard was sent over to Germany to be stationed and served with the Armored Division, Track Vehicle Mechanic Troop D 1 st Recon Squad 2d AC USA R Seven.

He was married to the strongest woman he ever knew, Helen Maxine Johnson Shaw for 48 glorious albeit tumultuous years. Between the two of them they had a mix of his, hers and theirs raising 5 children.

Bill "Monk" Ruth, Shirley "Seashell" Shaw, Richard Shaw Jr., Rev. Warren Shaw (Danielle), and Landa Shaw Vander Wal (Robert). From those 5 children came his greatest loves, his grandchildren. His first bundle of love and joy being Shelby Redmond, followed several years later by Isaac Ruth, Jesse Redmond, Amber Shaw, Bridget Ruth, Avery Shaw, Aaron Vander Wal and last but not least Shawn Vander Wal.

Richard always felt blessed that he could live long enough to be a great grandpa to Teagan Redmond, Harper Ellingson, William Redmond, and his latest addition born a few days before he left us, Harrison Redmond.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents Basil F. Shaw and Ruth V. Locke Shaw, his baby sister Bunny A. Shaw, his brother Ray Dean Shaw and his grandson Isaac Ruth.

Richard was loved by his only surviving sister Janice Shaw Ward, many many nieces and nephews.

Richard had so many wonderful fulfilling stages of his life which gave him the opportunity to acquire so many loving and special friends. If you knew him it was to love him.
