Richard Volzke, 79, Herreid, SD, passed away on February 6, 2019 at the Linton Hospital, Linton, ND.

A celebration of Richard's life will be held in the spring.

Richard Albert Volzke was born on April 24th, 1939, to Richard and Carrie (Meier) Volzke. He married Judith Schweigert on October 5th, 1962 and together they had two sons. Dane Jason was born in 1967 and Jay Derrick was born in 1977.

Richard spent the first 70 years of his life farming the land that he loved. In 2009 Richard and Judi retired and moved to Herreid. Their son Jay and his wife Nicole have since been operating the farm that has been in the family for over 100 years. In 1999 their son Dane died in a traffic accident in Aberdeen leaving behind his young wife Rhonda and three small children Aaron, Carrie and Austin.

Richard is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judi; one son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Nicole; grandson, Lathan. He is survived by Danes children: grandson, Aaron and his wife Jenna; great grandchildren, Jason Dane, Andrew and Amelia. His only granddaughter, Carrie Peterson and her husband Myles; great-granddaughters, Calia and Kendra. And grandson, Austin. He is also survived by one sister-in-law, Phyllis Volzke and one brother-in-law, Donald Brenner.

Richard was preceded in death by one son, Dane; his parents; three brothers, Ervin, Herbert and Marvin; one sister, Adeline Brenner; and one sister-in-law, Lorraine Volzke.
