Obituary

Rita Feist, 83, of Strasburg, ND, died January 21, 2011 at the Strasburg Care Center. Memorial services will be held at 10:30am Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg with the Reverend Paul Eberle officiating. Burial will be in the spring at St. Anthony's Catholic Church Cemetery in Linton. There will be a prayer service on Tuesday at 7:00pm at the church. Rita was born on July 30, 1927, in the Wolverton Hospital in Linton, the daughter of Magnus T. and Mary (Mitzel) Wagner. She was baptized July 31 at Holy Trinity Church, Krassna, west of Strasburg. She attended grade school in the rural area. She graduated from Strasburg High School. She earned a Normal Teaching Certificate from Ellendale Teachers College and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Valley City State College. Rita taught school for thirty-three years and she also served as the elementary principal the last seven years of her teaching career. Rita married Andy M. Feist on October 15, 1946 at the Holy Trinity Church of rural Strasburg. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed with his parents for several years before they homesteaded a farm two miles north of his parent's farm, southwest of Linton in the fall of 1952. She was a member of North Dakota Education Association, the North Dakota Elementary Principal's Association, the Retired Teachers Association, and the Christian Mothers of St. Anthony's Catholic Church where she served as an officer for the society. She taught CCD classes while teaching at Hague and Strasburg Schools. After her retirement she enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, visiting, reading and having leisure time. She is survived by her husband, Andrew "Andy" Feist of Strasburg, ND; one son and daughter-in-law: Pat and Mary Feist of Linton, ND; one daughter and son-in-law: Kathy and Carroll Lalum of Minnewaukan, ND; two grandchildren: Casey and Sherry Lalum and Amber Feist and fiance' James Tamez; one great grandson, Cannen Lalum; one brother and sister-in-law: Magnus Jr. and Ann Wagner of Linton, ND; four sisters and brothers-in-law: Valeria and Leo Sehn of Linton, ND, Rosebella Volk of Strasburg, ND, Marcella and Jake Camell of Becker, MN and Arlene Kramer of Strasburg, ND and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two grandsons: Cody Feist and Anthony Lalum and a sister, Viola Kramer.
