Robert K. Simper, 92, died January 6, 2023 at his home in Pollock, South Dakota. Robert was born to Lew and Maude (Sandy) Egeane Sheets Simper in Rochester, Indiana, on December 6, 1930. He graduated in 1949 from John Adams High School in South Bend, Indiana. Following graduation, he attended Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Robert enlisted in the army in February, 1951. PFC Robert Simper was in the 82 ^nd Airborne Division stationed in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. He recalled with great fondness the thrill of jumping out of airplanes, a total of 47 times. On September 16, 1952 he was chosen Soldier of the Month and spent several days sightseeing in Washington, D.C. and meeting military authorities.

After his honorable discharge, Robert married Sallie Elyane Myers on March 6, 1954 in the First Presbyterian Church of South Bend, Indiana. They made their home in South Bend. They were blessed with two children, Chip and Stacy. They later moved to LaGrange, Illinois, and Niles, Michigan.  Throughout his career as a salesman, Bob worked for numerous employers selling boats, RVs, and recreational equipment. He also sold truck trailers for Fruehauf.

Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman. He hunted upland game and waterfowl in Saskatchewan annually from the 1970's onward. There, he also fished for rainbow trout, making his final trip to Canada in the Fall of 2021 when he was 90 years old. While living near the Great Lakes he was often on the waters of Lake Erie and Lake Michigan making use of his Charter Boat Captain's license taking out friends and clients. After he retired in 1989, the couple moved to Hot Springs, South Dakota, where Bob worked part-time as a guide for those who came to the area to hunt pheasants or prairie dogs. Sallie died on September 12, 2001 after a lengthy illness.

In the Fall of 2010, Robert moved to Pollock, South Dakota where he enjoyed fishing on the Missouri River and Lake Pocasse. In the Pollock community, he was a member of the American Legion, served on the Pollock Community Library Board, and attended the Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church. Bob is survived by his son Chip (Laura) Simper, Pinckney, Michigan and daughter Stacy (Robert) Simper, Hot Springs, South Dakota; two grandchildren: Staci (Barrie) Turrall and Eric (Angel) Simper; and two great grandchildren: Odin and Nora Turrall.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service for Robert Simper is planned at a later date.
