He graduated from Linton High School in 1975 and soon after joined the National Guard.  He served proudly including his time stationed in Germany and he remained with the guard until his retirement in 2007.

Rodney wore many hats in his life, he worked at Cenex, spent time in the oil fields in Watford City and proudly owned and operated Rod's Painting and Drywall for over 30 years.  Later in his retirement, he worked part time for SeaView Farms.

On April 28, 1990, Rod married Bonnie Schiermeister, his best friend and lifelong partner.  They made their home in Bismarck and later in 2014, they moved to Cattail Bay, where they found peace and joy living by the water.

Rodney had a deep love for the outdoors, especially fishing.  Sharing that passion with his son, Mason, nieces, nephews and friends brought him a lot of happiness. He was also known for teaching others how to hunt and make sausage, something he took pride in and loved doing with others.

His biggest joys in life were the simple, meaningful moments, spending time with Bonnie, their son Mason, daughter-in-law, Shaunee and especially his granddaughter, Kinsley who brought a special light into his life.

Rodney will be remembered for his kind heart, his quiet strength, and the way he was always there when someone needed help.  He was the kind of person that made you feel welcome the moment you walked into the room.  A loyal friend, devoted husband and father, and a proud grandpa.
