Obituary

Roger Ryckman, 59, of Pollock, SD, passed away after a short battle with cancer, on July 11, 2017, at his home in Lincoln, ND.Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2017 from 4-9 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church, Pollock.Funeral Services will be on Monday, July 17, 2017 at 10:30 am at Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church, Pollock with Rev. Floyd Haan officiating. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery, north of Pollock.Roger Wayne Ryckman was born on November 27, 1957 to Ken and Faye (Looyenga) Ryckman, in Bismarck, ND. He grew up on a farm 7 miles north of Pollock in Emmons Co, ND with his parents and 3 younger brothers. He attended Pollock School and graduated in 1976. During his time there, he enjoyed participating in football, basketball and track; setting numerous records in track. After graduation he worked on a combining crew. Roger attended Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD where he met his future Mrs. He graduated in 1982 and returned to the family farm. On September 18, 1982 Roger and Penni Gantvoort were united in marriage in her hometown, Castlewood, SD. Roger spent the next 35 years farming and raising Simmental and Red Angus cross cattle. Roger enjoyed working 35+ years at the Herreid Livestock Market; also helping out in Aberdeen, Mobridge, and McLaughlin livestock markets.He played Indy basketball, City League basketball and slow pitch softball. He was a member of the Dakota Wildlife Club. His passion for hunting pheasant and deer included trips to Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, and the North Dakota Badlands when he received a once in a lifetime Elk tag. He was also a member and Deacon of the Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church. Roger is survived by his wife of 34 years, Penni, Lincoln; 4 children, Chris (Sara) Ryckman, Bismarck, Brandi (Wes) Quaschnick, Bismarck, David (Lindsey) Ryckman, Pollock, and Amber (Niall) Beyer, Sidney, MT; 7 grandchildren, his pride and joy, Michaela, Brooklyn, Jaxon, Caitlin, Karter, Aaron and William; his parents, Kenneth and Faye Ryckman, Pollock; 3 brothers, Al (Inel) Ryckman, Warner, SD, Gary Ryckman, Hawaii, and Dennis (Carolyn) Ryckman, Pierre, SD; mother-in-law, Geri Gantvoort, Castlewood; brother-in-law, Dean (Patti) Gantvoort, Centennial, CO; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Francis and Helen Ryckman and Bill and Dorothy Looyenga; uncles, Bob Looyenga and Robert Heckelsmiller; father-in-law, Loren Gantvoort; and brother-in-law, Dell Gantvoort.
