Roger Ralph Unger, 65, of Linton, ND, died April 29, 2011 at a Bismarck Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00pm Monday, May 2, 2011 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton with Fr. David Richter officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Linton American Legion. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at the Myers Funeral Home, Linton with a prayer service at 7:00pm. Visitation will continue for one hour before the services at the church. Roger was born on May 1, 1945 in Milwaukee, WI, the son of Ralph and Caroline (Gumieny) Unger. He was raised on a farm near Muskego, WI. He was the only son of five children. He graduated from Pius XI High School in Milwaukee and then attended Milwaukee Area Technical College where he earned a nursing degree. Roger served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was assigned to Wright Patterson Air Force Base where he served as a Corpsman Psychiatric Ward Specialist. He also attended the University of New York where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. He received his Master's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Michigan at Sault St. Marie. Roger married Catherine Bemis on April 15, 1967 in Milwaukee. Roger worked as a nurse in Clintonville, WI and was a Health Safety Administrator for Wausau Homes in Wausau, WI. He later worked for the Sister's of Sorrowful Mother Hospitals in Wisconsin. Roger also worked in a managements/CEO position for hospitals in Iron Mountain and Norway, MI. Roger and Catherine moved to Wishek, ND in 1991, where he served as Administrator/CEO for the Wishek Hospital. Roger took an executive position with the State Health Department in Bismarck. He was responsible for implementing the critical access program for the state of ND. He was currently serving as the Administrator/CEO of the Linton Hospital and Clinics. Roger was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church where he served as a Council Member and a Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Knights of Columbus and the Linton Lions Club. Roger enjoyed horseback riding and hunting. He is survived by his wife, Catherine "Cathy" Unger of Linton, ND; one son and daughter-in-law: Joseph and Jackie Unger of Mesa, AZ; two daughters and sons-in-law: Emily and Carlos Garcia of St. Cloud, MN and Lisa and Duane Volk of Strasburg, ND; seven grandchildren: Kaicey, Katie and Trista Volk, Paige Tweedale, Collin and Kaden Garcia and Christopher McCann; four sisters and three brothers-in-law: Joyce and Don Marshman of Shawano, WI, Jean and Jim Bischoff of Ft. Myers Beach, FL, Janet Drefahl of Muskego, WI and Theresa and Jim Wardon of Wind Lake, WI; two brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law: Bill and Carol Bemis of Goshen, IN, Jim and Bonnie Bemis of Plymouth, MN, Kathy Bemis of Bellingham, WA and Suzanne Bemis of Brookfield, WI; two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law: Bridget Bemis of Linton, ND and Margie and Art Klein of Henderson, NV and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers-in-law, Bob Drefahl, Edwin and Peter Bemis.
