Obituary

Roland Francis Brandner, 86, Herreid, SD, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Linton Hospital, Linton, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Herreid, SD with Father Tom Clement officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Military Honors by Jacob A. Heinrich American Legion Post 170.Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Herreid where there will be a wake service and rosary at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour before service time on Wednesday at the church.Roland was born June 4, 1930 at home in Herreid, the son of Paul and Agnes (Weisbeck) Brandner. He was raised and attended country school graduating from Herreid High School in 1949. Roland entered the US Marines on February 27, 1952 and fought in the Korean War, where he was a telephone lineman. He was discharged on February 19, 1954. Following his discharge from the service he farmed with his dad. Roland met Idora Keller and the two were married on November 14, 1955 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hague, ND. They lived and farmed on the Brandner homestead seven miles west of Herreid for 40 years. They retired from farming and moved to Herreid in December, 1995, where Roland continued to help his son on the farm until three years ago.Roland enjoyed farming and raising Hereford cattle along with many other animals. He taught his children to work hard and to work as a family. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his pride and joy as he loved to tease them. Roland entered the Strasburg Nursing Home in January, 2017.Roland is survived by his wife of 61 years, Idora Brandner; his children, Vernon (Susan) Brandner, Marcia (Bob) Huber, all of Herreid, and Norma (Todd) Moser of Pollock, SD; six grandchildren, Preston Huber, Alision Nilson, Tara Moser, Dena Hanson, Kyle Brandner and Ross Moser, nine great grandchildren; his sister, Sr. Joan Marie Brandner, Watertown, SD; sisters-in-law, Florence Brandner, Aberdeen, SD, Judy (Don) Woehl, Redfield, SD, Cyrella Weisbeck of Herreid, SD, Marietta Eberle of Hague, ND and Priscilla (Jim) Judah of Wilton, ND; brothers-in-law, Wilbert (Karen) Keller of Hague, ND and Landolin (Mary Ann) Keller of Linton, ND .Roland was preceded in death by his parents, his Father and Mother in-law, his brothers, Norbert, Herbert and Jerome; brothers-in-law, August Eberle and Donald Weisbeck; nephews John Brandner, Brenden Keller and Jim Weisbeck.
