Ronald Rodenburg, 89, formerly of Westfield, ND, died July 24, 2013 in an Aberdeen Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Hope Reformed Church, Westfield with Reverend Paul Stout officiating. Burial will be in the Westfield Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 2:00pm to 8:00pm at Myers Funeral Home, Linton. There will be a prayer service at 7:00pm at the funeral home. Ronald was born on July 9, 1924 in Westfield, ND, the son of Sidney and Plonieya (Van Heukelom) Rodenburg. He was raised 2 miles west of Westfield and educated at Hill School and graduated from Pollock High School in 1943. Ronald served in the Merchant Marines in the Pacific Theatre. He married Thelma Huizenga on December 27, 1946 at Hope Reformed Church. Following their marriage they lived and farmed one mile east of Westfield. They raised cattle, hogs, and small grains, retiring in 1988. Following retirement, he continued to help his boys on the farm. Ronald and Thelma enjoyed travelling, traveling all the Continental states. Ronald was a member of Hope Reformed Church where he served as deacon and treasurer. He also served on the Board of the Selective Service System. Ronald had a stroke in 1997 and Thelma cared for him in their home for 14 years before entering the Bethesda Home in Aberdeen, SD in 2011. He enjoyed reading, music, farming, and spending time with family and friends. Ronald is survived by his wife, Thelma, Aberdeen, SD; two sons, Perry Rodenburg of Linton, ND and Todd Rodenburg of Westfield, ND; two daughters and one son-in-law, Linda Dykema of Aberdeen, SD and Rhonda and Jeff Jarman of Aberdeen, SD; seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, two sisters and one brother-in-law, Betty and Norman Vander Vorst of Aberdeen, SD and Eulyn Feist of Pelican Rapids, MN; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Sylvia Huizenga of Linton, ND, Evelyn Huizenga of Westfield and Mavis Huizenga, Linton, ND as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Allen Dykema, brothers-in-law, Steven Huizenga and Isaac Huizenga and mother-in-law and father-in-law: Winnie and Gerrit Huizenga.
