Obituary

Rose Marie Holzer, 99, of Linton, North Dakota, died peacefully on March 7, 2026, at Linton Hospital with her family by her side. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am, on Saturday, March 14 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Linton. Visitation will be at Sannes Feist Funeral Home in Linton beginning at 5:00pm, with a prayer service at 7:00pm on Friday, March 13 and one hour before the service on Saturday at the church. Rose will be laid to rest at St. Anthony Catholic Church cemetery in Linton following the funeral service.

Rose was born on December 11, 1926 to Marcus and Helen (Marquart) Gefroh, at the family farm northeast of Hague, ND. Rose grew up on this small grain and dairy farm and attended school at Odessa Elementary rural Emmons County, ND. On November 9, 1948, Rose married Tony M. Holzer at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, rural Hague, ND. Rose and Tony purchased his parents farm in 1951 and operated it until 1987, when their son Gerard purchased the farm from his parents. After Gerard's passing in 1995, their grandson, Tony Goldade acquired the family farm. Rose and Tony moved to Linton, ND while continuing the farming operation in 1978.

While a parishioner at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Rose served with the Christian Mother's Association and upon moving to Linton she also served with the Christian Mother's at St. Anthony Church. Rose was an avid canner with many successful vegetable and flower gardens, also a talented seamstress and crochet efficient, providing all her grandchildren with their own afghan made with love from Grandma. Rose also enjoyed wintering in Arizona, traveling to multiple states and countries, camping with the Good Samaritan RV Club, card playing, golfing and visiting friends and family throughout her lifetime.

Rose is survived by her children: Anthony (Elsie) of Linton, Geraldine (Michael) Goldade, rural Wishek, Bernadette (Donald) Purser of Bella Vista, AR; daughter-in-law, Connie Gaebe, Bowman; 11 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Gefroh, Ann (Magnus) Wagner, Carol (Wes) Meidinger, Cindy Holzer and brother-in-law, Gene (Pat) Holzer.

Rose is preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Tony M. Holzer; parents; son, Gerard; grandson, Brian Holzer; brothers: Bernhard, Adam, Marcus, Steven, Aloysius; sisters: Katherine Hummel, Barbara Senger, Theresa Mastel, Ann Johs; 3 infant brothers; 1 infant sister; son-in-law, Bruce Hendrickson; father in-law, Michael Holzer; and mother in-law, Elizabeth (Mastel) Holzer.

Rose's family will forever be grateful to the staff at Prairie Rose Assisted Living Center for the love and care she received for several years and in her final days Linton Regional Medical Center staff for their compassionate and comforting care. Thank you also to Fr. Mark Aune and St. Anthony Church for the prayers and blessings.
