Ruth Sandwick, 94, Linton, ND died October 20, 2022 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at the United Methodist Church, Linton with Marlin Sapp officiating. Interment will be held in the Linton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM on Wednesday at the Sannes Feist Family Funeral Home, Linton. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
Ruth (Reimer) Sandwick was born October 14, 1928, NE of Linton, ND to Fred and Fredericka (Bender) Reimer. She attended Omio School of rural Linton through the 8 th grade. At the age of 13, Ruth's sister and a friend said they were going to marry Louis Sandwick. Ruth told the two that she was going to be the one to marry him. On January 10, 1947, Ruth married "the cute sailor." The young couple moved to Los Angeles in 1948, where Ruth worked in a candy and sewing factory. They also lived in Milwaukee for a short time.
In 1949 they returned to Linton where together they farmed and ranched. They later purchased the family homestead NE of Linton. During this time, Ruth was a census worker covering seven townships, contracted services for painting, staining and cooking, along with all the duties of a farm wife. Ruth and Louis were blessed with two daughters, Connie and Patty.
In June 1992 Ruth and Louis sold the farm, retired, and moved to Linton, ND. They were fortunate enough to have enjoyed traveling together during their retirement. Ruth lost the love of her life and best friend when Louis passed away December 30, 2005.
Ruth enjoyed playing cards, reading, sewing, gardening and flower beds, canning, refinishing furniture, and most of all cooking. This was evident at every meal. Ruth was always very down to earth and a hard worker. Even at age 93 she was independent, very persistent, and driven. Up until this past April she lived in her home, cooked wonderful meals, attended and held card parties, worked in her garden and flower beds, took care of all her household chores (including climbing ladders to clean windows -much to her family's dismay).
Ruth was a life member of the Legion Auxiliary and VFW. She was very involved with the Linton Legion Auxiliary and held the positions of President and Sergeant at Arms. She was a member and past president of Past Presidents Parley. She was also a member of the Red Hatters and Linton Senior Citizens. Ruth volunteered for blood drives, the election board, and was a devoted church member of the Linton Methodist Church.
Ruth was grateful to have shared her life with her husband, Louis Sandwick, Linton ND; two daughters and one son-in-law: Connie Engel of Apache Junction, AZ and Patty Baer (Tod) of Mandan, ND.
Preceded in death are Ruth's parents, Fred and Fredericka Reimer, husband Louis Sandwick, brother Eugene Reimer; sisters, Emma Umber, Ann Kundert, and Elsie Weber.
Ruth had requested that any donations be given in her name to the Linton Library, the Linton Historical Society, or St. Jude's Hospital.
