Sandra Rae Kertzman, 67, Hazelton, ND, died Friday, March 8, 2013 at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Hazelton, ND. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Hazelton, ND. Sandra Rae was born August 9, 1945 in Clarinda, Iowa. Sandra is the oldest of eight siblings, Paula, Timothy, Jelinda, Richard, Debra, Randal and Colette. Their family moved numerous times with Mom Blendina and Dad Rigobert leading the way. Sandra graduated from Belgrade High School in Minnesota in 1963. She decided to go to hairstyling school in Wyoming. Later, Sandra also enjoyed working at the Bismarck Hospital. Sandra married Michael Henry Kertzman on November 11, 1967 and they briefly lived in Hazelton. Sandra's family and her parents family all moved to California for job opportunities. Sandra worked as a nurse aide at Royal Oakes Convalescent hospital in Galt, CA, and Mike worked at Guild Winery in Lodi. They raised their three children, Sheri, Lisa and Michael in Galt, CA until December, 1980. They moved back to the Hazelton area and farmed and owned Mike's Lounge for 25 years. Sandra often said her greatest blessing was living near her children and seven "sugars" (grandchildren): Bryan, Drew, Cole, Kyle, Taite, Jeremy and Kendra. She often attended their various events and her sugars are sure they had The Best G-Ma in the world. Sandra was an avid gardener and loved spending time out in the yard with her flowers. Her nurturing talents did not end in the garden. Sandra had such a big heart and was generous with everything and everyone in her life. She never turned away anyone in need. Sandra will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The subs will never be the same at Cenex. Sandra's last years were marred by many health issues. Sandra's strength, courage, determination and faith were an inspiration to us all. Sandra was simply The Best daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend than most of us will ever know and we will love you and miss her all the days of our lives. She is survived by her son, Michael J. Kertzman, Hazelton, ND, two daughters and one son-in-law, Sheri Grossman, Strasburg, ND and Lisa and Troy Moch, Hazelton, ND, seven grandchildren, Bryan, Drew, Cole, Kyle, Taite, Jeremy and Kendra and one great granddaughter, Ava, her mother, Blendina Scherr, Lodi, CA, three brothers and sisters-in-law, Tim and Sue Bierl, Lodi, CA, Rick and Joan Scherr, Stockton, CA and Randy and Giner Scherr, Yreka, CA, and four sisters and brothers-in-law, Paula and Kriss Enzi, Beach, ND, Jelinda and Ron Mosher, Silverdale, WA, Debbie and Ron Ring, Stockton, CA and Colette and Mike Romero, Lodi, CA. Sandra was preceded in death by her father, and her husband in 2005.
