Dr. Sheldon "Doc" Malmedal, 71, when to his heavenly home on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at Sanford Hospital, Bismarck, ND, after a short illness.

A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 am, on Saturday, January 12th, 2019, at Peace Lutheran Church, in Linton, ND, with pastor Sean Barnhart officiating.

Prayer service will take place at 7:00 pm, on Friday, January 11th, 2019, at Myers Funeral Home, in Linton, ND.

Sheldon Gary Malmedal was born on July 30th, 1947, the first child of Floyd and June (Koss) Malmedal. Sheldon grew up on a farm north of Cando, ND. He attended school in Egeland, where he graduated Valedictorian in 1965. His post-graduate school was NDSU, where he earned a degree in horticulture. He attended the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 1973.

He met his wife Marilyn in 1968 and they were married on August 30, 1969, in Crookston, MN. After his graduation, they moved to Dickinson, ND, and practiced with Dr. Pat Williams until 1975 when they moved to Linton, ND, and began the Linton Veterinary Practice, where he practiced until his hospitalization.

Together, they had four great kids, with whom he shared his love of gardening, woodworking, and vet medicine, as they used to help in each of his endeavors. Many hours were spent helping with homework, teaching them family values and the importance of family. He not only loved veterinary medicine but also gardening and would share his flowers with anyone who liked them. He enjoyed teaching and took several young people on calls with him, teaching them about animal care. He also taught youngsters about gardening and working with wood. He enjoyed giving many of the wooden creations he made with his wife, not only to his children and grandchildren but generously donating projects to the NDVMA and making faith chests for children baptized in his church. He and his wife completed many wood projects over their 49 years together. He loved to host family gatherings and playing card games, with Pinochle being his favorite.

Sheldon is survived by his wife, Marilyn; two daughters, Loretta (Kyle) Haas of Napoleon, ND, and Rhonda (Richard) King of Sioux Falls, SD; two sons, Cortland (Maria) Malmedal of Lincoln, ND and Tristan (Arla) Malmedal of Mobridge, SD; his sister, Judy (Rick) Galow of Bisbee, ND; 13 grandchildren, Brady, Megan and Taylor Malmedal, Payton, Charmaine, McKenzie, Sabrina and Felicia Haas, Haley, Kadyn and Connor King, and Cady and Owen Malmedal; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Denny, Janet Baskerville, both of Crookston, MN; three brothers-in-law, Mark Baskerville of Lucan, MN, Rick (Anita) Baskerville of Eldred, MN, and William Baskerville of Tracy, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Leslie; aunt and uncle, Ruby and Werner Koss; father and mother-in-law, Robert & DeLayne Baskerville; and brother-in-law Robert Baskerville.
