Obituary

Shirley A. Jahner, 79, Linton, ND died August 28, 2025 in the Linton Regional Medical Center.  A Celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at the First Baptist Church. Linton with Pastor Richard Cook officiating.  The burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery, rural Mandan, ND.

Shirley was born January 2, 1946 in Linton, ND the daughter of William and Martha (Kiemele) Weber.  She grew up the youngest of eight brothers and sisters on the family farm.  She graduated from Linton High School in 1963 and the day after graduation she started a 20 year career in the Emmons County Courthouse.  She worked for the Register of Deeds and the States Attorney.  She served one term as the Register of Deeds from 1979 to 1983.  In 1983 she started as a full-time temporary employee at FSA and in 1986 she became a permanent full-time employee at FSA.  She retired in 2010 after 27 years with FSA.

She married Alex Jahner on October 9, 1965 and they made their home in Linton.  They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in October.  Shirley enjoyed reading, playing games, visiting with family and friends, scrolling Facebook and spoiling her 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.  She was always sending them home with candy.  She always made sure everyone left with a full stomach.  All were welcome for Sunday soup followed by a game "or ten" of Yahtzee or Skip-Bo.  Shirley was a member of First Baptist Church of Linton where she sang in the choir and was a money counter.  She was also a member of the WMF.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Alex Jahner of Linton; Her children: Michele (Matt) Courser of New Hampshire, Patti (Brian) Jacob of Linton and Justin (Kelly) Jahner of Bismarck; her 8 grandchildren: Dalton Courser, Lucas (Erica) Courser, Brittney Van Beek, Derek (Renae) Jacob, Tyler (Alison) Jacob, Jade Jacob, Cole Jahner and Bryar Jahner; her 9 great grandchildren: Bailey Courser, Ella and Crew Van Beek, Kate and Leo Jacob, Addison, Leah, Bradyn and Bryce Jacob and another on the way.  Shirley is also survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law: Susie Weber, Herman (Leslie) Jahner, Frank Jahner, Patrick Jahner, Betty Ann Rohrich and Beverly (Myron) Bosch as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her mother and father-in-law: Frank and Maggie Jahner; her brothers: Wilbur (Anna Laura) Weber, Freddie and Neil Weber; her sisters: Alma (Ralph) Kramer, Luella (Edwin) Ohlhauser, Viola (Arnold) Ohlhauser, Velma (Harlan) Ohlhauser and Janice (Harold) Umber; her brothers and sisters-in-laws: Helen (Willie) Ibach, Ralph (Geri) Jahner, Cheryl Jahner and Sandra Jahner and a great grandson, Aaron Jacob.
