Shirley Jane Schatz, 80, died peacefully on September 28, 2016 at her residence in Greenwood Village, Colorado. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am at Peace Lutheran Church, Linton, ND, on October 8, 2016 with Pastor Sean Barnhart officiating. A committal service will be held at the Linton Cemetery immediately thereafter. Following burial, a fellowship luncheon will be offered in the basement of Peace Lutheran Church. Visitation will be on Friday, October 7, from 12-9 pm at Myers Funeral Home, Linton.Shirley was born on May 22, 1936, in Emmons County, ND, the daughter of Hilda (Bollinger) and Reinhold Schatz. Shirley thoroughly enjoyed reading, walking and socializing with people, known commonly for her constant smile and sweet demeanor. As a loyal member of Peace Lutheran Church, Shirley was also a proud contributor to PLC Ladies Aid and its associated causes. Shirley loved adventure, often traveling with her son to places like New York, San Francisco, and the mountains of Colorado. In recent years, she even journeyed to Argentina for his wedding. She also enjoyed frequent rides on his Harley Davidson, the last of which was on her 80th birthday this year. Shirley graduated from Linton High School in 1955 and made Linton her permanent residence thereafter, raising her two children in the community. Shirley was employed by Jan's Cafe for over 20 years, and greeted everyone with a smile and prompt service. After working in the restaurant industry, Shirley stayed active cleaning at Don's Motel for more than 8 years before retirement.In her retirement, Colorado became a second home for Shirley, as she made several trips a year to visit her son and her newfound Colorado friends. She eventually relocated to Colorado in September 2014, exactly 2 years prior to her death. Shirley is survived by her son, Conway J. (Daniela) Schatz, and their daughter Sophia Schatz, of Colorado; her daughter, Regina (Mark) Schatz Krush, and their sons, Kristoffer, Alekxander and Nikkolas of Florida; as well as her brother, Kenneth (Lorraine) Schatz of Linton, and his extended family. Shirley was blessed by many other very special relationships over the years, such as Arthur Berreth and his first wife, Elizabeth (her aunt and uncle), Ms. Anna Ryckman, Ms. Jan Smith, Ms. Joann Mitzel, Ms. Charlotte Fraise, and Ms. Ronda Monroe, and Ms. Katherine Meidinger (aunt) amongst others.Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, and her grandparents, Jakob and Katarina (Martel) Schatz and Daniel and Rosina (Martel) Bollinger.
