Terry D. Vander Laan, 63, Pollock, SD, died Saturday, December 19, 2009 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church, Pollock. Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery, Pollock. Visitation will be from noon until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Myers Funeral Home, Linton, ND. Terry D. Vander Laan was born November 12, 1946 in Linton, ND. He was raised on the family farm in southern Emmons County. He attended school in Pollock, SD, and graduated in 1965. After graduating high school, Terry joined his father and brother in the familys farming operation. He was engaged in some aspect or another in farming for his entire career. On February 14, 1977, he married Mary (Palmer) Zent, and together they raised two wonderful boys, Mike and Jason. Terry considered Pollock, SD and surrounding communities his home. Terrys love for the community led to his involvement in many activities. He was a member of the Jaycees, Pollocks Mens Club, Emmons County Bowling Leagues and coaching softball. Terry loved to keep up with all the local sports. Annual events in Terrys earlier years included the highly anticipated Vander Laans bulls sale, his birthday parties and his super bowl parties. It seemed like Terry had friends in numerous counties and states. He was also known as a little Miller and Tiny. His genuine kindness led him to make friends easily. It seemed like everyone who met him loved him. He will be missed and cherished by his sons and daughter-in-law: Mike and Tara of Bismarck, ND and Jason of Mandan, ND; grandsons: Riley and Logan of Bismarck, his sister and brother-in-law: Karen and Blaine Meier of Garrison, ND; sister-in-law: Bonnie Vander Laan of Pollock; nieces and nephews: Deb (Ken) Moen of Denver, Chad (Meg) Vander Laan of Mohall, ND, Willow (Dave) Sprenger of Garrison; and step-mother: Shirley Vander Laan of Pollock.
