Verl Dornbush, 69, of Pollock, SD, died October 11, 2024 at the Strasburg Care Center. A visitation will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Hope Reform Church Westfield, ND. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM following visitation.

Verl Dean Dornbush was born January 7, 1955 to Cornie and Elizabeth (Te Beest) Dornbush at the Linton Hospital. He attended Bakker Elementary School at Westfield and graduated from Pollock High School in 1973. He then attended and graduated with a degree from North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND. He later moved to Denver, Colorado working as a carpenter. He then moved to Phoenix, AZ also working as a carpenter in the early 80s where he eventually met Kathleen (Kathy) Julia Derning (Dornbush). They were later married on June 27, 1989 on his parent's (Cornelius and Elizabeth Dornbush) farm in Westfield, ND. At that time he also became a father to Dane and Taryn Dornbush (Collins) from Kathleen's previous marriage. Following their marriage, Verl and Kathy bought a home and moved to Strasburg, ND, and eventually purchased their current farmland near Pollock, SD where they continued building a future together. Verl adopted Dane and Taryn as his own children in 1993. Verl was widowed in September 2006 after Kathy was involved in a single car motor vehicle accident. He eventually retired from farming but continued to live on the farm. His health began to decline over the last 3-4 years and entered the Strasburg Care Center in September of 2023.

Verl was most recently a member of the local Carpenter's Union 1091. When Kathy was alive, he enjoyed trips to Sturgis with her, as well as camping, riding horses, and motorcycle runs. He loved to tinker on his bikes. He was always very handy and could build almost anything he imagined.   He enjoyed working on the family farm, hunting, and socializing with family and friends.

Verl was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen Dornbush; parents, Cornie and Elizabeth Dornbush; brothers, Harlen, Kenny, and Roland; sisters, Mildred Hollaar and Charolotte Huizenga; nephew, Curt Hollaar and great-nephew, Chad Ochsner and great great nephew, Killian Leatherman.

He is survived by his children, Dane Dornbush, Buffalo MN, Taryn LeGette, East Alton IL; granddaughters, Milla and Isabella LeGette, East Alton; sisters, Delores Kuipers, Platte, SD, Jan Dornbush, Waite Park, MN and Cheryl Dornbush, Rapid City, SD; 20 nieces and nephews; 24 great-nieces and nephews; 51 great-great nieces and nephews; and two great-great-great nephews.

His family and friends remember Verl as a hardworking man who was fun loving and a problem solver.
