Willie was born April 17, 1918 on a farm southwest of Hull, the son of Frank and Winnie (Groen) Nieuwsma. He attended country school. Willie married Bertha Droog on February 23, 1937 at the Hull parsonage by the Rev. Tanis. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed south of Hull. They moved into Hull in 1977 but continued to farm. Bertha died on March 2, 2006. Willie continued to live in Hull before entering the Strasburg Care Center in June of 2008. Willie was a member of the Hull Christian Reformed Church where he served on the church consistory as deacon and elder and he also taught Sunday school. Willie was also a member of men's society. He enjoyed farming, attending auction sales and sports, especially baseball. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Franklin and Gracey Nieuwsma, Pollock, SD, Willard Nieuwsma, Pollock, SD and Lorraine Nieuwsma, Sioux Center, IA; four daughters and sons-in-law: Gladys and Lowell Seymour, Pollock, SD, Helen Huizenga, Edmonds, WA, Herb Neukircher, Mandan, ND, Lavonne and James Rossow, Buffalo, WY and Vivian and Curt Vander Vorst, Hull, ND; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Grace Droog, Sioux Center, IA; sister and brother-in-law: Jeanette and Bernice Van Heukelom, Herreid, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; daughter, Carol Crawford Neukirchner; son, Edwin Nieuwsma; granddaughter, Natalie Sue Nieuwsma; daughter-in-law, Sylvia Nieuwsma; sons-in-law: Harlen Dornbush, Robert Huizenga and Robert Crawford.
