Winnie (Van Vugt) Rowerdink was born April 21, 1914 to Arie and Nellie (Groen) Van Vugt in the Hull area. She had six brothers; William, Peter, John, Gerrit, Jake and Ernest, and two sisters, Anna Smit and Helen Tschritter. She married Cornelius (Cornie) Rowerdink on May 22, 1937. They moved to Minnesota where they both worked for the Hanson Silo Company in Lake Lillian, MN. Their first daughter, Nyla, was born during this time. Later, they moved to Oklahoma, where Cornie was employed by a construction company. In 1944, they moved back to North Dakota, where their son, John, and later their twin daughters, Helen, and Susan, were born. In 1948, Cornie and his brother-in-law, Peter Van Vugt, opened a business in Strasburg, the P & C Motor Inn. Cornie and Winnie raised their family in Strasburg and Cornie continued to own this business until he retired in 1981, after which they enjoyed several winters in Arizona.
